Raheem Sterling hopes Jack Grealish’s arrival at Manchester City will help increase his goal tally.
The 26-year-old is looking to link up with England team-mate Grealish at club level after the previous £100m Aston Villa captain’s record was moved to the Etihad.
Sterling scored just 14 goals in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side last season – 17 times fewer than in the 2019/20 season – but, playing alongside Grealish, he is looking for more this time around.
“They have signed a fantastic player and someone who wants to prove himself at the highest level,” Sterling said. “I don’t think there is any better club for him to try to do that.

“He’s a player who always wants the ball, has good space and is creative.
“He’s adding another creative player to this team and I’m really excited about him, so I hope he can add some more goals to my credit.

“When you add good players to your squad, it’s always good. He’s a player that I think can really have a great career here.”
Sterling’s level fell last season, but he was one of England’s most prominent players as they reached the Euro 2020 final in the summer.
Having had a break since then, he is now feeling fresh and ready for the new Premier League campaign.

Stirling said: “It’s great to be back. The first few days were a bit rusty, but great to be back. I’ve had a great summer vacation for a week or so and now I’m really excited to be back in training.
“It’s an exciting season and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve got all my energy and attention to focus on going through this season and I’m really looking forward to being honest.”
The City champions begin their title defense at Tottenham on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.
Stirling said, “We had fun [being champions], but it’s over, done. Last season is over, so we won’t get the trophy again this year given last season.
“We know what we have to do, we have to quickly get out of the league and just play our football, and that’s the most important thing.”
