Britney Spears’ mother, Lynne Spears, released a statement following the news that dad Jamie has agreed to step down as the singer’s guardian.

Britney Spears hinted at freedom in a hidden post

Britney Spears received the news she had been waiting for on Thursday when her father agreed to step down as her governor after a years-long battle.

Although no schedule has been set, the 39-year-old singer is sure to be thrilled that Jamie, 69, has agreed to step down “when the time is right”.

The singer’s mother, Toxic, Lynne, 66, also welcomed the decision.

In a statement to the New York Times, Lynn’s lawyer said her client was “delighted that Jamie has agreed to step down.”

The lawyer added, “Lynn entered into this guardianship to protect her daughter nearly three years ago. She accomplished what she set out to do.”

The statement comes as Jamie appeared to be critical of Britney’s mother on his private file.

His lawyer wrote: “Instead of criticizing Mr. Spears, Lane should thank him for ensuring Mrs. Spears’ well-being and for perseverance throughout his years in office that demanded his 24/7 attention, 24/7 and sometimes late at night, to deal with everyday issues. And the emergency – all to protect Mrs. Spears and those around her who are tasked with protecting his daughter.

“Lynn has had only a limited role in Mrs. Spears’ life for the past thirteen years. She hasn’t had a parenting role in her life in decades.”

According to papers filed on Thursday, the singer’s father wants to work with the court on an orderly transition to a new person.

His attorney writes in the paper: “There are, in fact, no actual grounds for Mr. Spears to be suspended or removed from his position as Governor of the Estate, and it is highly debatable whether a change in guardianship at this time would be in Mrs. Spears’ best interest.”

However, even if Mr. Spears is the constant target of unprovoked attacks, he does not believe that a public fight with his daughter over his continued service as her governor would be in her interest.

“Therefore, although he must appeal this unjustified impeachment petition, Mr. Spears intends to work with the court and his new daughter’s attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to the new governor.”

The documents add: “No matter what his official title may be, Mr. Spears will always be Mrs. Spears’ father, will always love her unconditionally, and will always look out for her best interests.”

Britney has been under legal guardianship since 2008.

The court-ordered arrangement, which is usually reserved for the severely ill, elderly or incapacitated, came after a long public meltdown that led to multiple hospitalizations.

In June, Britney told the court how she was forced to use contraception and compared her situation to that of a victim of sex trafficking.
