Manchester United players are advised to sign before the transfer deadline

Manchester United are looking to end their four-year cup drought this season and have already made waves in the transfer market to do so.

The Reds got a large part of their work done early in the window, signing Tom Heaton on a free transfer from Aston Villa at the start of July. They followed this up by concluding their nearly four-year quest for Jadon Sancho by signing the 21-year-old winger in a £72.9m deal from Borussia Dortmund, before agreeing to a deal for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as well.

But with the Premier League opener against Leeds United looming and the final three weeks going out the window, United’s work isn’t necessarily done yet.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen to add a right-back to the squad to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with Kieran Trippier the first target. However, the England international’s deal has been deadlocked, with the price currently being asked by Atletico Madrid too high and the manager has been impressed by Diogo Dalot’s performance during his loan at Milan and during pre-season.

United are also keen to add a midfielder to the squad, but with Paul Pogba likely to remain at the club this summer after Paris Saint-Germain’s interest waned following the inclusion of Lionel Messi from Barcelona, the signing has become a little less important.

Solskjaer has acknowledged the possibility of a fourth signing in the summer, with Eduardo Camavinga, Ruben Neves and Saul Niguez tied for midfield roles, but United are unable to make any more significant signings without selling some first-team stars.

Camavinga is said to prefer a move to Spain or Paris over United, while links with Neves and Saul have been tentative at best. Youngster James Garner has been linked with a loan move out despite his admiration in pre-season, but Solskjaer could opt for the same options he had last season, with Donny van de Beek returning from pre-season with his improved physique and signs of proven.
