Android 12: Notifications are more compact in landscape view

[ad_1]

We’re still finding new little tweaks and tweaks in Android 12 Beta 4, but one change that could be polarizing is how landscape notifications are now handled.

If auto-rotate is enabled on your device, being able to reply or see notifications in the right direction is a huge bonus. As initially spotted by @Futur3Sn0w on Twitter (h/t Android Police), the change in Android 12 Beat 4 sees incoming notifications shrink to a central position on your screen rather than the full width of the notification shade.

These built-in notifications reduce white space, but the number of Smart Reply options is significantly reduced – even if the context of the incoming notification remains the same – as you can see below:

On devices like the Pixel 5, the smaller screen can cut into some of the user interface so it looks a bit patchy. However, some may like the way Android 12 Beta handles notifications in landscape mode where less of your screen is dedicated to incoming sounds, when stacked notifications with a lot of text and profile pictures often leave little graphical remnants. Personally, I’m on the fence about the change, but again I don’t often use my device in landscape mode – except for some light gaming.

Game dashboard broken for widgets with notifications not working yet

It’s worth noting that if you’re using the Game Dashboard in Android 12 Beta 4, landscape notifications won’t work here yet – although the section appears when you expand it. A little more work will likely be needed to get everything together properly.

Let us know what you think of Android 12 Beta 4’s more compact notifications if you spend a lot of time using your Pixel in landscape mode down in the comments section below.
