The shooter killed five people, including a 3-year-old, who shot himself by Jake Davison, and caused himself to be shot, police said.

PLYmouth, England (Reuters) – A man shot dead five people, including a three-year-old girl, during a six-minute killing spree with a pump shot in the southern English city of Plymouth, police believe. It was a case of domestic violence.

Mass shootings are rare in the UK, where gun ownership is relatively low and Thursday’s frenzy was the worst of its kind in over a decade.

On Friday, police said the shooter was Jake Davison, a 22-year-old crane operator. Police said he aimed his gun at himself after killing the five victims on Thursday evening.

Devon and Cornwall Police Chief Constable Sean Sawyer said police found no motive, but were not considering terrorism or any far-right associations, although they were looking at Davison’s computer.

“We believe we had an incident related to the indoor environment that spilled into the street and saw many people inside Plymouth lose their lives in unusually tragic circumstances,” Sawyer told reporters.

The shooting began around 6 p.m. Thursday, killing a 51-year-old woman Davison knew in a house. Then he ran outside and instantly killed the little girl in the street with her 43-year-old relative.

Davison shot two passersby who were badly injured, then entered a park and shot another man before killing another woman.

Then he pointed the gun at himself before the firearms officers could handle it. The deadly wave of shooting ended within a few minutes.

Sawyer said witnesses described the weapon as a pump gun. He could not determine whether or not Davison had mental health problems. Davison had a firearms license.

In videos posted online, Davison complained about not losing his virginity as a teenager and described himself as “celibate” – or involuntarily celibate. The newspaper reported that he complained in the videos of being beaten for life.

Britain has suffered a number of deadly militant attacks in the past several years, but this was the worst mass killing of its kind since a taxi driver killed 12 people and then shot himself in a rampage in Cumbria, northern England, in June 2010.

The deadliest mass shooting in Britain’s modern history was the 1996 Dunblane massacre in Scotland, when a gunman killed 16 students and teachers at a local school before taking his own life.
