The mother of Plymouth gunman Jake Davison has been named as one of the five victims of the mass shooting.

Maxine Davison, aka Maxine Chapman, 51, is the mother of the 22-year-old, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed.

Jake Davison, 22, killed his mother for the first time on Biddick Drive in Keyham Thursday night in Britain’s worst mass shooting since 2010.

He then shot dead a three-year-old girl, now named Sophie Martin, and her 43-year-old father, Lee Martin.

The gunman shot two residents – a 33-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman – and both sustained serious injuries not currently believed to be life-threatening.

Davison continued the shooting as he entered a nearby park, where he killed 59-year-old Stephen Washington, before shooting 66-year-old Kate Shepherd at Henderson Place. Mrs. Shepherd later died at Dereford Hospital.

After a rampage, Davison pointed the gun at himself.

His death was reported at 6.23pm, just minutes after police alerted at 6.11pm.

All of the dead live in a locality in the Keham district.

The firearm used by Jake Davison was kept legally.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the question of how the attacker legally obtained a weapon should be “appropriately investigated” as he described the shooting as an “absolutely appalling” incident.

Devon and Cornwall Police Chief Constable Sean Sawyer said there had been a “significant” number of phone calls to emergency services and that police had arrived at the scene within six minutes.

It’s not yet clear if the suspect knows the rest of the victims, but he said Davison, who lives locally, “knows the people on that street.”

“We believe we had an environmentally-related incident that spilled into the street and saw many people inside Plymouth lose their lives in extraordinarily tragic circumstances,” he said.

Speaking to Sky News, Police Chief Sawyer added: “Never have we ever had a murder followed by a raging gun attack on random members of the public and then one of them killed. This is unprecedented in my time as chief of police.”

He described the shooting as “really shocking” and said members of the public had seen them, urging them to seek support.

He said Davison had a firearms license in 2020, there was no “motive” at the moment, and the weapon – which witnesses described as an automatic rifle – was recovered from the scene.
