Everton star James Rodriguez breaks silence on Covid isolation

James Rodriguez revealed that his isolation was the result of contact with a person who tested positive for the Corona virus.

The former Real Madrid player said, on Thursday, that he expected to miss the Southampton match at Goodison Park, but did not explain why.

But speaking at his press conference to review his team’s match with the Saints, Rafa Benitez confirmed that the Colombian was in isolation and would already miss the match.

The Blues coach told the playmaker was one of five players currently single, but chose not to name the others.

“We have some players who are in isolation now, with Covid around us we have to be careful and stay at home. He is one of them,” he said.

Before continuing: “There are five players in isolation. I will not mention many of them, because it is better not to do so.”

Providing an update on his health while playing video games on Twitch on Friday night, James revealed that he was fine and simply had to follow protocols.

He said: “Being at home for eight days because I’ve been in contact with someone with Covid and the rules here are to be at home.

“So I’ll be home for eight or ten days, but I’m fine, I don’t have anything serious.

“I have no symptoms, you’re welcome, I’m perfect.”

As reported by ECHO earlier this month, James has already been informed by the club that he could leave the Blues this summer.

This is because the former Bayern Munich player does not appear in his coach’s plans this season and is free to leave, if the right offer is raised.

“There’s a game on Saturday then, but I don’t know, I don’t think I’ll play,” he was quoted as saying, giving an update on his future on Thursday.

Before adding: “Anything can happen here at the end of the month, football always changes fast.”
