Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, the mobile-exclusive installment of the legendary Konami platformer series, is being revived for Apple Arcade.

Initially announced in 2018, Grimoire of Souls promises a portable slide of gothic action platformers that focuses on the adventures of Genya Arikado – “the character of Alucard” – as he attempts to stop the impending resurrection of Dracula.

This quest leads him to worlds within magical grimoires for familiar spells of side-scrolling action, which can be played solo and co-op, and across a variety of different modes – the game features a number of other playable characters, including Simon Belmont and Maria Renard, Charlotte Olin, and Glyph Master Shanwa.

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls was finally released as a free-to-play title for iOS and Android in 2019 but hasn’t made it outside of Canada — a year after launch, Konami announced that it was withdrawing the title due to insufficient player interest.

But like Dracula, Grimoire of Souls doesn’t seem to want to stay dead, and has now appeared as an upcoming Apple Arcade version slated to release “soon.” The App Store slate of the recently launched game promises “60 levels, a variety of equipment, daily and weekly quests, and more” with a seemingly new playable hero.

It will be compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, and offers a choice between touch input and controller support. And of course, since it’s an Apple Arcade version, all the original annoying micro-transactions will be stripped when they arrive “soon”.
