Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have sentenced Ben White to transfer after a £50m transfer

Sky Sports duo of Gary Neville and Jimmy Carragher view Arsenal’s signing of Ben White as “elegant” and have urged the central defender to model his playing style in the style of John Stones for success at the top level.

White, 23, signed the North Londoners in a £50m deal from Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this summer.

An appetizing fee has raised many questions about whether the Euro 2020 defender deserves this much, but Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have allayed Arsenal fans’ fears with their latest ruling on the fourth-placed Arsenal.

In preparation for the disappointing 2-0 loss to teammate Brentford on Friday night, the Liverpool legend believes the loaned former Leeds candidate will be able to live up to his price tag despite eventually struggling on his first outing.

Carragher explained to Kelly Kitts: “She’s a big figure on the head, he looked like a stylish player in the England squad, and he wears the Brighton shirt too, but there’s a lot of eye on the Arsenal defenders and for good reason.”

“When we look at his aerial duels, the player he replaced David Luiz who was very strong in the air, it will be interesting to see how Arsenal coped with him during the season in defence.”

Subsequently, fellow critics 43-year-old Neville went to compare White’s match to Manchester City’s John Stones.

Neville said: “He will be judged by the way he defends at Arsenal and by the number of mistakes he made and did not commit.

Another person who believes in the 23-year-old’s ability to make the move is former manager Graham Potter who has now backed his former defender to take a big step.

“I’m really happy for Ben,” Potter told Sky Sports. “I think when the fees are at the level that he is, it’s a great opportunity for us to develop the club and continue to grow as a team.”

“Of course we wish Ben the well, he has been fantastic. I think his journey as a footballer, from the academy with us, to Newport, Peterborough and then Leeds United – it’s been fantastic for him and then a season in the Premier League.

“Then moving to Arsenal for the fee we’re talking about, it’s a great achievement for him and a great achievement for the club.”

White himself is aware of the differences in how he fits into his north London style of play this season, especially as his new side are well known for playing from behind on many occasions in a four-back formation.
