Gillian Sturgeon, 46, was arrested Wednesday in connection with an incident inside a property in Kelowing on Saturday, August 7.

Her arrest came days after a 50-year-old man was arrested in the same incident.

Gillian Sturgeon, a mother of two, is the younger sister of the First Minister.

She posted on social media: “I know the police have a duty to investigate and I have fully cooperated.

“I cannot make any further comment at this point, but I am sure the truth will prevail.”

Ms Sturgeon, who lives in Irvine, and the man have been released and are due to appear in Kilmarnock Sheriff’s Court at a later time, police said.
