Director Ken Loach has been “expelled” from the Labor Party

Left-wing film director Ken Loach said he was expelled from the Labor Party in what he claims is a “purge” of critics of the leadership.

Lifelong socialist Loach, 85, said he was fired after refusing to “acquit” other critics of the Labor left who had already been removed.

This comes after the party expelled last month four groups linked to it on the grounds that they were “incompatible” with its values.

They included groups that criticized Sir Keir Starmer’s efforts to tackle anti-Semitism within the party ranks.

In a series of defiant tweets, Loach insisted that ultimately the “clique” surrounding the Labor leader would not prevail.

“The workplace has finally decided that I am not fit to be a member of their party, because I will not disavow those who have already been fired,” he said.

“Well, I am proud to stand with good friends and comrades who have fallen victim to the purge. There is indeed a witch hunt.

“Starmer and his clique will never lead a party of the people. We are many and few. A symbiosis.”

Loach, a supporter of former leader Jeremy Corbyn, has long expressed his ideals of socialism through films such as Kes, I, Daniel Blake and Sorry We Missed You.

Some Labor MPs criticized the decision to fire the veteran manager.

Former Shadow Adviser John McDonnell tweeted: “To fire such a good socialist who has done so much to advance the cause of socialism is a disgrace.

Kane’s films exposed the inequalities in our society, gave us hope for change and inspired us to respond. I send my solidarity to my friend and companion.”
