The government is planning a £7,000 grant to homeowners in a bid to replace gas boilers.
To achieve net-zero emissions targets by 2050, the sale of gas boilers must be discontinued from 2025 according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The Clean Thermal Grant Scheme will help homeowners fund eco-friendly alternatives to gas boilers starting in April 2022.
Among the viable alternatives being considered are heat pumps, although the cost of switching from a gas boiler can be as high as £14,000 per home.
The government plans to spend £400m to remove gas boilers, and the Clean Heat grant is set to rise from £4,000 to £7,000, according to The Times.

This will help fund about 60,000 heat pumps as Brits are encouraged to switch to eco-friendly boilers.
Heat pumps, which cost around £10,000 compared to the £1,000 for some gas boilers, are better for the environment because they use a small amount of electricity to transfer heat.
The International Energy Agency said the UK needs to ban fossil fuel boilers from 2025 to achieve its net zero emissions target, as one of 400 proposed for the country to be net zero by 2050.
In addition to gas boilers, the government plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030.
