Gary Neville believes he knows what the future holds now for Tottenham striker Harry Kane after noticing that the trend had lost in the last of the weekend’s opening matches.
The 28-year-old striker is still linked with a big move to Manchester City. In a twist of fate, Spurs edged out potential suitor Kane in their new season opener on Sunday. Son Heung-min played as a striker in Kane’s absence, scoring the match-winning goal on an afternoon as a local talent garnered great reviews.
Judging by Sunday’s game, the team that needed Kane the most was Man City after they struggled to break Tottenham’s defensive code in the absence of an acknowledged number 9.
And according to Neville, that’s exactly what he thinks will happen soon after he stated that he thought Kane was “gone”.
Neville’s announcement stemmed from Kane being one of the few players to help England reach the Euro 2020 final who did not appear this weekend.
Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has repeatedly insisted that Kane needs more time to prepare for pace. However, many of the other England players who played important minutes at Euro 2020 were either substitutes or starters this weekend.
Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire both started with Man Utd. Declan Rice, Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling were also selected off the pitch for their clubs.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Calvin Phillips, Kieran Trippier and Man City defense duo Kyle Walker and John Stones have been named to their seats.
Speaking about his role as an analyst for Sky Sports (via Express), Neville said: “I’ve just read the fact that every other England player who has been part of the Euro has played this weekend either off the bench or in the squad.
“Harry Kane will be here today. I feel there was no doubt about his future. I thought he was gone.
“I felt he was invisible on the pitch; Tottenham’s top players, the first game of the season invisible in that stadium? We have a lot of cameras and I think we’ve been looking for him everywhere. Not seeing him here today was a surprise.”
The Palestinian News Agency reported that Kane was on the field during the match. However, he was never seen in public view.
Sky Sports cameras were desperately looking for Kane’s sight during the competition, especially when Spurs fans started singing “Watching Harry Kane?”

There is no other explanation for the absence of Kane-Neville
Neville added: “There are no Premier League matches this week and there are five or six days to do something. I think for me he didn’t sit on the bench with him.
“I could be completely wrong and in two weeks’ time I would be happy to come here and watch him with Spurs.
“But every other player in England was involved. Sancho was on the bench yesterday, Calvin Phillips was on the bench.
“They all got very limited time to train. But at least they were on the bench and Harry Kane was normally.
“He’s the most professional player you’ll ever see, so there’s something going on.”
