BBC Team of the Week Garth Crooks: The Manchester United trio included after a convincing win over rivals Leeds United.

Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga and Son Heung-min made the cut after they pulled off a surprise on Sunday afternoon thanks to a South Korean goal that gave them a 1-0 win over Manchester City.

The duo quickly helped put an end to Man City’s festivities after their £100m signing with Grealish and reported an interest in their striker Harry Kane – who was nowhere to be seen.

Meanwhile, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah appeared in the squad after their convincing 3-0 win over newly promoted Norwich City.

Van Dijk made his competitive comeback with the Reds after being sidelined for most of last season and produced an impressive performance at Anfield, scoring a clean sheet.

Salah continued his impressive form with Liverpool, scoring on his first day for the fifth consecutive time – breaking a Premier League record.

The choice of Garth Crooks for the Liverpool trio came with some criticism of the Canary Island.

“Norwich has had a season outside the Premier League but doesn’t seem to have learned any lessons from the holiday,” he said.

“They’re back in the top flight with players who might be good enough to win the championship, but I’m going to put money on them not surviving this season in the Premier League.”

Manchester United players Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood have also been included in the Crocs squad.

Pogba was instrumental in his impressive victory over Leeds United, scoring four assists, while Fernandes scored a hat-trick, and Greenwood missed the season mark.

While the Red Devils put in a great show for the home fans, the same couldn’t be said for the Whites, who were particularly poor.

Crooks said: “As for Leeds, what? What happened to the team that scared life from Liverpool at the start of last season? I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

“Leeds fans have waited so long to see their team return to the Premier League and they deserve better.”

Leeds United showed a glimpse of the promise of a stunning Luke Ayling goal to equalize, but it wasn’t long before their opponents swung by another four.

“I thought Leeds had a chance when they drew 1-1,” Crooks said.

“But that was before Mason Greenwood got two of the best touches you’ll ever see on the run, and then, with his third, he buried more pass from Pogba in the net.”

The Whites will be hoping to kick off their season with their first home game of the season against Everton this weekend – a match many Whites fans will watch for the first time they play in the Premier League since 2004.

The bottom three in Crocs’ squad went to Everton’s Richarlison and Chelsea duo Trevoh Chalobah and Marcos Alonso.

The Brazilian scored a goal in Toffees’ 3-1 win over Southampton on Saturday, while Shaluba scored a stunning goal on his Premier League debut in Chelsea’s impressive 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Alonso opened the scoring for the hosts, before Christian Pulisic doubled their lead and then Chelsea academy producer Chalubah made the third goal.

The 22-year-old broke down in tears while partying with his old friend Mason Mount.

Despite a superb performance from Brentford that saw them go 2-0 away against Arsenal in their first Premier League game, the Bee Boys missed out on a place in Crocs’ side – but they may have been more annoyed about the three points.
