Osa joins Rainbow Six Siege as her first transgender customer

Osa will be the first transgender in Rainbow Six Siege when she joins the roster tomorrow.

First announced last week, it’s a two-health, two-speed, and tough character who uses the Talon-8 Clear Shield to block incoming bullets. Her gender identity was not revealed during the announcement, and she was not discussed during previews for the upcoming Year 6 Season 3 content. However, GameSpot noticed a line in Osa’s bio that says “transition” and the post reached out to Ubisoft for confirmation. This is what Ubisoft said:

“The decision to create the transgender character was made early on, as part of our initiative to acquire a comprehensive client roster,” a Ubisoft statement read. “The counselors, who are all transgender, wanted to make sure Osa was presented as authentically and organically as possible.”

Yes No

This included hiring an eccentric to write the character and a trans woman to voice it. According to the statement, Osa’s identity in the game is “definitely influenced by her gender,” but “who she is in the Siege world centers around her talents, influence on Nighthaven, and her close friendship with Kali.”

GameSpot reports that the game does not mention Osa’s sexual identity other than the line referring to her transmission on her resume.

“She pursued her passion for creativity and technology and studied electromechanics at a vocational school, then military engineering at the University of Zagreb where she excelled in robotics engineering,” says Osa’s biography in the game. “She found herself isolated by her unorthodox approach and the attitudes of others toward her transformation, so she focused on her work.”

Osa will join the big list of Rainbow Six Siege players tomorrow when Y6S3 Season 3 content streams to the game’s test server.
