The government will resettle Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in Britain under plans modeled on the one that brought tens of thousands of Syrians into the country.
The Times has learned that Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, is setting up a specific system to enable Afghans to seek asylum in the UK.
The ministers are determined to devise a “world-leading” scheme that will be inspired by David Cameron’s 2015 resettlement plan for Syrian refugees.

This scheme has brought Syrians from camps on the country’s border directly to the UK, and resettled 20,319 refugees as of February this year.
While it is not yet clear how many Afghans will be able to get them out of the country, the Ministry of Interior is preparing for it
