The Samsung Galaxy S22 looks a lot like the Galaxy S21 in the latest leak

If you were hoping for the Samsung Galaxy S22 range to be a huge improvement over what Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S21 range, you might be in for a disappointment, as the recent leak suggests that many things will be the same or the same.

Ice Universe (a leaker with a proven track record) has posted a variety of details about the upcoming phones on Weibo. Many of these details are identical to a leak we covered the day before, and may actually come from the same sources, given that Ice Universe claims this information has been “summarized through various channels”.

But there are some new things here, including claims that the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus will have FHD+ displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, and that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will have one QHD+ with a 120Hz refresh rate. These are identical to the Galaxy S21 range, although the rumored screen sizes differ slightly, at 6.06 inches, 6.55 inches and 6.81 inches while raising the range.

The cameras also look similar, though not identical. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus apparently have a 50MP main camera, a 12MP wide camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. That could mean a few different sensors for the S21 range, but the same basic configuration and zoom capability.

It’s a similar story on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which appears to be getting a pair of 12MP telephoto shots instead of the 10MP one on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, but other than that it has a seemingly identical setup, including the 108MP main camera megapixels, and a 12-megapixel ultra-high-resolution camera. Optical and wide zoom with 3x and 10x focal lengths.

Ice Universe also echoes the previous leak by saying that the design will be similar to the Galaxy S21 range. Specifically, it’s clear that the upcoming phones will have a “modified version” of the Samsung Galaxy S21 design.

Finally, they mentioned battery sizes as well, but that’s again identical to yesterday’s leak, where the Galaxy S22 is said to have 3800mAh, the Galaxy S22 Plus to have 4600mAh, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra to have 5000mAh.

You might want to stick with our Galaxy S21 analysis (Image credit: TechRadar): The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus could actually be a cut-down in some ways

Not only do the Samsung Galaxy S22 range features and design similar to the S21 range from this leak, but the standard Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus could actually be a step down in terms of screen size and battery life.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 has a slightly larger 6.2-inch screen paired with a larger 4,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S21 Plus has a larger 6.7-inch screen and a 4,800mAh battery.

The difference isn’t huge then, but it works in favor of older phones. Combined with rumored similarities in other ways, they can end up being disappointing releases. Then again, Samsung will likely push the price down in line with these muted specs, so there’s a chance we’ll see a major bargain.
