A group of about 20 angry protesters have “taken over” Edinburgh Castle in a so-called stand against “fraudulent governmental tyranny”.

Visitors were evacuated as protesters entered the stadium without a ticket on Tuesday.

The group accused the government of treason and “recaptured the castle,” citing Magna Carta this evening.

It is not clear exactly what they are protesting against, although some reports suggest they are against Covid lockdowns – despite most restrictions being lifted in Scotland on August 9.

They began staying near the entrance to the Royal Regiment Museum at about 5.45pm.

Hours later, the police were still at the scene with a live broadcast appearing on social media.

In a 13-minute video, a woman said the castle “belongs to the people” and that the group is “reclaiming strength”.

She went on to say that the Scots had “lied their whole lives”, “the buildings belonged to them and (they) took back the castle” in order to “restore the rule of law”.

Another man says, “Betrayal has been going on for a long time now, we can’t just sit back and let everyone perish under stupid legislation and fraudulent governmental tyranny, so let’s take it all back, not just the castle.”

The woman then calls for “no more enslavement,” telling viewers that “the people and the Commonwealth will be free.”

She says the group will wipe out everyone – including the government and the courts, and adds: “The crown is coming down today.”

The protester continues to claim that “corrupt, evil and satanic pedophiles run this country.”

When the police appear, she shouts “Notice to Force” and informs the officers that protesters are taking over the castle under Article 61 of the Magna Carta.

Article 61 has been cited several times by closure donors, especially business owners who have refused closure in line with the restrictions.

The video shows a policeman asking: “How many people do you expect to come to Edinburgh Castle today to join your protest?”

When you tell him “This isn’t a protest, we’re actually taking it back,” he replies, “Okay, don’t worry.”

A spokesperson for Historic Environment Scotland said: “A group of about 20 people entered Edinburgh Castle this evening without charge.

After requests to leave the building were refused, Police Scotland were called to the site and are dealing with the matter. There are no other visitors to the site at the moment.
