Harry Kane did not travel with Tottenham Hotspur to Portugal for the Europa League playoff with Pacos de Ferreira.
Kane has been named in Tottenham’s 25-man squad, but the England captain will stay at home to work on his fitness as his teammates head to Portugal, a decision made by all sides.
The striker’s participation in the competition will not prevent him from participating in the Champions League this season if the move to Manchester City is achieved.
Kane trained with his Tottenham teammates for the first time this season on Tuesday morning, after ending his isolation period. He was staying at the Tottenham Hotel, The Lodge, after returning to the UK from his vacation in the Bahamas, via Florida.
He was unable to rejoin his teammates as they prepare to face City in Sunday’s Premier League opener due to isolation requirements, and he will have to wait for his first appearance of the season for much longer.
City made a £100m bid for Kane, which was turned down earlier this summer, and manager Pep Guardiola confirmed he wanted to sign the striker.
Kane told Tottenham at the end of last season that he wanted to leave the club this summer in a bid to compete more regularly for major titles and believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with club president Daniel Levy to do so.

Speaking on Gary Neville’s first podcast of the new season, the Sky Sports analyst said Manchester City’s defeat to Tottenham on Sunday will only increase his desire to sign Kane before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.
He said: “I don’t think Man City were the type of club that would respond after one defeat, but they are three now. [Champions League final, Community Shield and Premier League] And they need a striker.
Former Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown believes club president Daniel Levy does not want striker Kane to lose to Manchester City.
“Gabriel Jesus and Ferran Torres are strikers, and I know that is how the game goes in terms of flexible strikers, like Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. They move around and City have Raheem Sterling, Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and other players moving across the front line.
“But I think they need a point, they need something, because in games like Sunday, Kane could have been the difference. He would have taken the opportunity, he would have played it more forward, he would have asked them to play faster, maybe put his head on a cross.
“The thing for me with Manchester City is when they don’t play to their best they start slowing down the game and walking with it. I don’t understand why that is. I understand you might not run as hard, but when you’re on the ball you can still be sharp and move the ball. Away. They got lost in 15 or 20 minutes of the game.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Manchester City are still very keen on signing Kane and will step up their efforts to sign the striker.
