The United Kingdom recorded 113 more COVID-related deaths and 36,572 cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to government data.
That compared to the 111 deaths reported within the 28 days of testing positive yesterday, and 33,904 cases.
At this time last week, there were 33,074 cases of infection and 94 more deaths.

Since the pandemic began in 2020, a total of 131,373 people have died in the UK within 28 days of being tested for COVID-19, while there have been 6,392,160 laboratory-confirmed infections, according to the figures.
Where COVID-19 is mentioned on the death certificate, the death toll is now 154,811.
Another 47,284 people got their first coronavirus vaccine on Wednesday — with 16 and 17-year-olds included in that number for the first time.
This means that 47,460,526 people have now received at least one hit.
With 169,223 second doses given yesterday, 41,157,069 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID.
However, an Oxford University study found that people who are double stabbed can still transmit the coronavirus.
Scientists at the university have found that virus levels can be as high in people who get COVID despite having both stabs as they are in those who haven’t been vaccinated.
Dr Quinn Boyles, one of the study’s lead researchers, said: “Vaccines are better at preventing severe disease and less effective at preventing transmission.
“The fact that you see more viral load (with a delta variant) suggests that herd immunity is more difficult.”
The scientists found that two doses of the Pfizer vaccine were more effective against Delta, but their protection waned faster than the AstraZeneca vaccine.
It comes with the news that coronavirus cases in England rose by 6% last week – after falling for two weeks.
Data from the NHS Test and Trace shows 19,508 people tested positive for COVID in the week to 11 August.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization has issued advice stating that if a third vaccine is introduced it should be “provided to the most vulnerable first, from September 2021 to increase individual protection and protect the NHS before winter”.

The World Health Organization has criticized countries with high vaccine rates for considering third doses while large parts of the world remain unvaccinated.
Joe Biden announced yesterday that the United States will begin giving the next round of doses starting September 20.
