An investigation was opened after a badger was found dead with his feet nailed 10 feet into a tree.

The animal, a protected species under the Badger Conservation Act 1992, was discovered in Denby’s Nantes Glen area by a member of the public on Wednesday morning, August 18.

The North Wales Police Rural Crime Team has launched an investigation into the death.

A disturbing image released by the team shows two nails attaching the animal’s feet to a branch. Although the cause of the badger’s death has yet to be determined, his body has been submitted for an autopsy.

BC Richard Smith, of the Rural Crime Task Force, said: “We cannot yet confirm the cause of death for this animal, but we have provided the body for autopsy.

“Incredibly, badger persecution continues to be practiced in North Wales and we will continue to work with partners to address such abhorrent incidents.”
