Two Conservative MPs seemed to act in disbelief when Boris Johnson suggested that the UK government “expected” the situation in Afghanistan to unfold.
Hearing the Prime Minister’s speech during Wednesday’s debate in the House of Commons, Mark Harper turned to a colleague in shock before the pair leaned forward to make sure they heard him properly.
After Johnson’s opening statement, Harper criticized the “absolute failure of the intelligence government” regarding the speed with which the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
We need to be honest about the failures that led to this point. He said that our future security depends on it.
