Thomas Tuchel insisted that the door to Chelsea’s first-team squad would always always be open for local talent.

The departure of prominent academy graduates Fikayo Tomori, Mark Guihi and Tammy Abraham has raised concerns in some quarters that Chelsea’s recent confidence in the youngsters may be waning.

But German coach Tuchel was in a quandary to explain how deeply he appreciates Chelsea’s core of academy stars turned regular first-team players.

Trevoh Chalube’s promotion to the first team adds more glory to the Chelsea training academy at Cobham. Tuchel pledged not to shut down his impressive production lines representing the likes of current first-team players and England stars Mason Mount, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Asked if Shaloba’s promotion provides a reminder that young talent can still advance at Chelsea, Tuchel replied: “Always. Always, always, always and the door is always open.”

In fact, I love him and I really think the supporters love him. The mix of big-name players from abroad, big personalities and famous players can mingle with the guys from the academy. This is what makes the club special.

And when you look at the picture when we lift the trophy in the Champions League, there are a lot of boys from the academy in this picture.

That makes it special and that’s what it should be. It’s always about the mix.

Tuchel has admitted that getting to Chelsea is one of the toughest challenges in European football – but he has vowed to continue nurturing the club’s talented youth.

“There are no gifts at this level,” Tuchel said. You have to earn your way, and you have to overcome obstacles. You have to fight hard for it.

“If you want to get to Chelsea, it’s a lot more difficult than most clubs in Europe. It’s simply like that, it’s a fact and we can’t start being political and prefer someone from the academy over another player if he doesn’t perform at the same level.

“At the end of the day we are here to win football matches and play and push the group to the highest level. That is what Trevoh did and I am more than happy to have him in the team and happy about the way he was able to make his way into first team football at this level.

He entered the academy at the age of eight, which is simply amazing. That’s why I’ll always be happy to push players like that, but then you have to take your heart in your own hands and you have to be brave and brave enough to take charge when you’re there.

We will never corner anyone. contrast. If you come from the academy, you produce, and you’re a nice guy like Reecey, like Mason, like Trevoh, like Callum, we’ll never stop pushing you.

But we can’t go through the door. We can just open it up and show them the way and they have to do it themselves.
