Love Island star Hugo Hammond has claimed that some of Jake Cornish’s scenes were not broadcast in order to “protect Jiberty”.
Hammond – who was removed from the villa earlier this month (August 5) – took to video-sharing platform TikTok to share his thoughts on the program.
The former PE teacher claimed that Jake was romantically interested in bombshell Millie Court, who was a late part of the series.
Hammond said that scenes showing Jake stalking Millie and Liberty upset the show in order to protect Jake’s relationship with Liberty in the viewers’ eyes.
The TikTok video, in which Hammond is seen staring out of the window, is accompanied by a text reading: “When Lip pulls you in for talks after Jake wanted to get to know Millie but the show didn’t broadcast it to protect ‘Ghiberti’ and now that’s happening.”
Yesterday’s episode (August 20) saw longtime couple Jake and Liberty split up – referred to as “Gyberty” – after Liberty said she didn’t think Jake loved her.
Both contestants were knocked out of the series before the final match on Monday (August 23).
“Imagine what it could have been,” Hammond commented on the post.
However, the 25-year-old explained that he only “assumes” the reason why the producers chose not to show Jake and Millie’s scenes.
“I don’t actually know why it was never broadcast. But that is my assumption,” Hammond wrote in the comments.
Love Island continues Sunday, August 22nd at 9:00 PM on ITV2.
