The elite in Washington have turned on Biden. Watch out for Harris Presidency

[ad_1]

Joe Biden’s extended honeymoon with the US media is over. Amid the failed withdrawal from Afghanistan, fact-watchers have turned on him. There will be no turning back.

So vexed by their hatred of Donald Trump, and so excited at the prospect of the Obama administration’s glory days by Ray Ban, that much of the American media was that they touted Biden as the “natural” candidate and shielded him from questions about his record and abilities. not longer.

The question is why? It seems unlikely that the pro-democracy media had a momentary fit, let alone a conscience, and suddenly relinquished their positions as a self-proclaimed propagandist as the staff of the US Embassy in Kabul did to helicopters.

The answer may be closer to home. By withdrawing from Afghanistan, Biden, like Donald Trump before him, has bypassed the dangerous forces that America’s leaders have failed to contain since the 9/11 attacks. Not the Taliban – the United States seems to be doing surprisingly well with them these days – but a much more intractable opponent of liberal democracy: the Blob.

The Afghan and Iraqi wars have exposed the folly of lucrative groupthink in Washington that links arms manufacturers, bureaucrats, think tanks, and the military with elected officials who must bring pork home. The Obama team called this marriage of imperial vanity and old-fashioned corruption the “Point.” Trumpets called it “the swamp.” Intellectuals, who are part of its mechanism, and academics, who wish to be part of it, call it the “Washington Consensus”.

American media love to talk about the old line of speaking truth to power, but since 9/11 they’ve mostly been in a more comfortable field of business: speaking on behalf of power. The media volunteered as happy patriots in the struggle for freedom, and they are still on the field. In the early days of George W. Bush’s empire, it was possible to build a career on a frenzy of inclusion, a book deal, and retirement on the CNN benches. And what could be better than a permanent state of emergency and endless war?

Wars cost more than welfare states, but promotions for the War on Terror were free. The media, tamed by the constant drip of anecdotes, fake news, and fictitious exclusivities, became effective propaganda for the panic of the day, helping America get a slice of Nigerian yellowcake with its morning cup of joe.

American newspapers and cable shows in recent days seem like a reboot of traditional Chinese medicine. The modern war-selling bosses of the early 2000s are back, explaining why withdrawal is so strategically insane that we’re within a drone strike or two of victory.

The nuance—withdrawal was delayed by nearly nineteen years, but Biden’s handling of it was chronically incompetent—is lost. Blob always fights to win, at least on his home ground. Biden may have approved of Blob’s foreign adventures, but he’s now on the wrong side – the side of the American people, who are tired of Afghanistan and Iraq.

And so the outlets that sold the wars, and also Biden’s nomination, are now whispering that he’s over it. This is an admirable part of telling the truth about power while covering your collective background, because Biden has blatantly outgrown it for some time, and the media has devoted significant energy to covering it up.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris of Biden switched from bragging that she was the last person in the room when Joe signed up for the flight from Afghanistan to not seeing her anywhere. Actually, that’s not fair. Kamala Harris has gone from being a semi-hidden case on the southern border sent by Biden’s team to deal with the migrant crisis, to high profile if you’re in Vietnam and Singapore, where she is now. The second Saigon in Kabul is so embarrassing that it is safe to be in the first Saigon.

While Harris plays a great role, Biden is influenced by Afghanistan. There’s still plenty of time, but the media’s turn against Biden has started the countdown toward this prospect that no one is looking forward to except for the second pair, Blob, and Veep herself: Kamala Harris’s shot for the presidency.
