Galaxy Z Fold 3, Flip 3 pre-order data reveals surprising success

Foldable smartphones seem to be going a long way with 3G, and Samsung is reaping the rewards. New pre-order data from Korea claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are not only the most popular foldable devices to date, but also Samsung’s best-selling devices in nearly two years.

The Korea Herald reports that Samsung has pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 with over 450,000 units so far. Estimates put the final figure at 600,000 to 800,000 units. This ruined the reported performance of last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 2, which appears to have only managed to sell around 80,000 units during the pre-order period.

What’s particularly interesting about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3’s numbers is how they compare to Samsung’s non-foldable smartphones. Apparently, pre-order sales of the Fold 3 and Flip 3 combined were more than twice what the Galaxy S21 series saw earlier this year and 1.5 times more than the Galaxy Note 20 series in 2020. This certainly paints a promising picture for the future of folding smartphones.

Further detailing the data, this report claims that the two phones are the most popular among younger buyers. One carrier appears to claim that age groups in their 20s and 30s made up 49% of pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and 57% for the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

In an official statement, Samsung said that pre-orders for these two phones exceeded the total sales of the Galaxy Z in 2021.
