Young patients suffering from the devastating effects of the prolonged Covid virus urged people to get their vaccine.

In a new video from the NHS, they talk about ‘persistent fatigue’ and the transition from ‘ultra-active’ lifestyles to being able to barely leave their homes.

All three were previously healthy people in their early twenties and thirties. One thought he would die of the virus in the hospital.

Children aged 16 to 17 in England can book their first doses of the day. The call extends to “at-risk” children between the ages of 12 and 15 before they return to school in September.

Megan Higgins, 25, a special needs educator from London said: ‘It’s now been eight months since I tested positive for the virus, and I can’t even walk around the shops without feeling overwhelmed.

“Long Covid is exhausted, so please, get vaccinated. I don’t want anyone else to go through what I have.

Ella Harwood, 23, an illustrator from London said: “I am young and fit but have been in bed for seven months with Covid-19.

“Before I contracted the virus, I was very active and had no health concerns, but now I have asthma and a number of allergies. I’m afraid I’ll never be the same again, but I’m making progress and I’m so grateful I’m still alive.

Quincy Dowamina, 31, described himself as a “healthy young man” who “goed to the gym a lot” and delayed getting vaccinated – but fell seriously ill.

“My advice is to get vaccinated: Don’t put yourself and others at risk,” he said. More than a fifth of people hospitalized with the virus are between the ages of 18 and 34 – four times higher than the peak in winter 2020, the NHS said.

Another 49 deaths were recorded yesterday, down from 61 in the previous week. But the average number of daily cases has risen since August 1 and 32,253 more cases have been added in the past 24 hours.
