White House Press SEC is tested as Fox News interrogates it about ‘stranded’ Americans in Kabul | world | News

Jen Psaki clashed with Fox News correspondent Peter Dossey at the White House who asked if the Biden administration had done things backwards by withdrawing troops first and not following through on evacuations entirely. Mr. Dossey noted that the government was leaving the Americans “stranded” in Afghanistan, and Jane Psaki was soon backing down and saying she wanted to “call” Mr. Doshi for his suggestion. The clip has been viewed more than a million times on Twitter, and some have also raised a problem with Ms. Psaki saying there are some Americans who may not want to return to the United States.

Speaking during a White House news conference, Mr. Dossei Psaki asked if she agreed that most of the criticism of President Joe Biden was for withdrawing his forces before the evacuation was completely over.

“Does the president feel that most of the criticism is not for leaving Afghanistan?” he asked.

“That’s how I ordered it to happen pulling out the troops before taking out those Americans who are now stranded. Does he have a sense of that?”

Mrs. Psaki seemed visibly annoyed by the question and replied immediately: “I think it irresponsible to say that Americans are stranded, they are not.

“We are committed to bringing Americans who want to go home.”

Doshi then questioned whether the official White House position is that no Americans are stranded.

Ms. Psaki replied, “I’m just calling you to say we’re making Americans stranded in Afghanistan when we’ve been very clear that we’re not going to leave Americans who want to go home.

“We’re going to bring them home and I think it’s important that the American public hear and understand it.”

Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said it was unlikely Biden would extend the August 31 troop withdrawal date, despite pressure from G7 leaders on the president.

Biden said there was “no need” for troops to remain in Afghanistan after the defeat of al-Qaeda.

Wallace revealed that more than 2,000 people were evacuated in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to more than 10,000.

The Taliban revealed that there would be “consequences” if the US remained in Afghanistan after August 31.

Mr Wallace told Sky News he feared the threat of terrorist attacks would increase in the final days of the evacuation as terrorist groups like ISIS want to be seen “chasing” the West out of Afghanistan.
