Gamescom 2021 is in the works, and this evening has brought an Xbox demo. You can see the entire broadcast archive, but if all you care about is new trailers, we’ve got them all together here.

It wasn’t a great show, frankly, with little in terms of new games and a big focus on games like Dying Light 2 we’ve seen so often already. However, there were some new games and some great new Forza Horizon 5 screenshots. Find everything below.

Dying Light 2 – New Trailer

The new trailer for Techland’s zombie-filled jump and hop sim shows the backstory of the city setting, as well as showing more parkour and combat action. There was a lot of falls in style, including swinging with grappling hooks and landing on zombies to cushion your fall.

The Top Gun expansion is still in the works, but we’ve seen new footage of the sim’s Global Update 6, which adds more refined cities and new points of interest to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It included plenty of shots of a nicely detailed cologne, which only fit in a Gamescom video. There have been some other MSFS update announcements that you can read here.

The stream then continued with a premium lineup of games from publisher Humble Games that will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on their release date, including some nice looking indie games. They were: Archvale, Next Space Rebels, Midnight Fight Express, Dodgeball Academia, Bushiden, Flynn: Son Of Crimson, Unpacking, Signalis, Unsighted, Chinatown Detective Agency. The latter is a great point-and-click adventure, and I’m all about it.

A fast-paced retro FPS game about bombarding the circle through dungeons and making monsters explode with bullets from your hands. It’s from Tom Bates, who was half the Big Robot, and the other half was RPS co-founder Jim Rossignol. You can find more details in our full post on Into The Pit.

The sequel to the strategy game wants to teach you history, and so we’ve got a mini-documentary on catapults, with a real-life look at remaking the medieval military tool. It was a reflection of the research that went into making the game. There hasn’t been a new look at the game itself, but we’ll obviously find that during opening Night Live tomorrow, Wednesday 25th.

The following Wasteland 3 DLC trailer reminded me that Wasteland 3 exists. It focuses on a cult that adores the nuclear blast that destroyed the world, credits it with creating new mutated species, and is willing to share its radiance with everyone. It will be released on the 5th of October. They’ve also made an alarmingly big deal on how to fix a lot of bugs in the core game.

New swag comes to Sea Of Thieves in the form of a Borderlands-inspired ship set, complete with a Claptrap figurine head. You can win the ship starting now with the Making Mayhem event, which runs until September 7.

New DLC for the zombie survival simulator is coming September 1, which adds the first game’s Trumbull Valley map to State Of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition. Hence the name “Homecoming”. It’s a free update for all existing State Of Decay 2 owners – and all Xbox Game Pass players, natch.

A new RPG with a simple cartoonish art style, where you hack and slash with swords through various dark fantasy enemies and big bosses. Yes, it’s Dark Soulsy at the surface level, but you have a furry friend and her combat seems a lot faster.

Ah, that’s even more exciting! Originally announced last year, The Gunk is a new game from the creators of the Steamworld series, a third-person action adventure about the exploration of a planet overrun by, well, gunk. It wasn’t mentioned during the broadcast, but a tweet has since announced that The Gunk will launch in December.

The show ended with a look at the Forza Horizon 5 branded Xbox console and cover art before, finally, we got 8 minutes of the new game’s intro footage. Several cars airdropped from a plane have featured in various types of racing around Mexico, including off-road driving down an active volcano in a Ford Bronco, racing a Corvette through a sandstorm, and zipping around a forest in a Porsche. It sounded fast, fun, and funny, just as I’d expect from the Horizon series. Ed also got an extra glimpse of the game before Gamescom, which you can read about here.
