Pochettino has yet to decide whether to give Messi his PSG debut

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly set their asking price for Kylian Mbappe after Real Madrid ramped up their attempts to sign the young star.

Real have long wanted Mbappe, with club president Florentino Perez wanting to make him a classic Galactico player.

PSG embarked on a recruiting wave this summer, signing Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ginny Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi, and had hoped to tie Mbappe to a new contract.

However, the 22-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his deal and appears unlikely to renew his terms with the French giants.

That opened the door for Real, who has tried to sign the youngster on two separate occasions and is now determined to make him lucky for the third time.

According to ESPN, Perez has taken his first step, bidding 137 million pounds (160 million euros) for Mbappe’s services.

This opening offer was turned down by PSG, but after having previously been held back by Real Madrid, the Parisian club has finally shown its willingness to negotiate.

With Mbappe not keen on signing a new contract, PSG have for the first time enjoyed the prospect of selling one of their top players, but they will only do so if their assessment is met.

The report states that Real will have to raise their bid to 171 million pounds (200 million euros) in order to have a chance to complete the signing before the August 31 deadline.

Mbappe joined Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco in August 2017 on an initial loan deal, which became permanent for a fee of £160 million (€180 million).

He went on to score 112 goals in 122 appearances for the club and formed a killer partnership with Neymar up front.

However, with his contract running out and Messi’s arrival when his contract with Barcelona expires, Mbappe’s future is in even greater doubt.

Mbappe came close to joining Real twice in the past, having tried at the club as a 13-year-old in 2012 and almost opted to join him from Monaco instead of Paris Saint-Germain.

Like all clubs, Real Madrid has been financially affected by the coronavirus pandemic, but is still in a position to compete for Mbappe.

That’s because they haven’t signed any first-team signings in the past two years and have earned valuable money through sales of Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard this summer.

Varane was sold to Manchester United for an initial fee of £34m, which could rise to £43m, while Odegaard joined Arsenal for £30m, plus £4m in add-ons.
