The Met Office predicts a heat explosion in the UK with temperatures reaching 26°C

Temperatures are set to rise to 26C in part of the UK today as the sunshine finally returns after a month of gray and gloomy weather.

Met Office meteorologists say the nation will enjoy the summer heat this week due to the high pressure taking hold, with the hottest temperatures expected today in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Mercury may reach highs of 24°C in Wales and 23°C on Thursday, and the outlook for the weekend in Wales looks good.

“High pressure dominates this week, resulting in mostly stable conditions with variable amounts of cloud,” said Sarah Kent, a weather forecaster with the Bureau of Meteorology.

But she warned that the cold front and northeast winds may lower the temperature at a later time. The Welsh Met Office forecast on Wednesday says: “Patches of fog and mist disappear during the morning, with clouds lasting for some time until midday. However, prolonged sunny spells in the afternoon and feeling warm in the sunlight. Dry all the time. Degrees The maximum temperature is 21 degrees Celsius.

For Thursday she says: “A slightly cloudy start but quickly passes to leave a dry, sunny day. Feeling very warm in the sunshine in some areas. Maximum temperature 23°C.”

The Bank’s Weekend Outlook says: “Good and dry with sunny periods on Friday. Cloudy on Saturday with some sunny periods and still dry. Long, dry spells on Sunday.”

Weather for your area by zip code:

It comes after many areas experienced heavy rain during what was, for some, wetter than average in August.

Speaking about the weather this month, Ms Kent added: “This month has swung a lot back and forth for many, and areas in Scotland have been drier than usual, while areas in the southeast have, of course, seen a lot of heavy rain.

“It wasn’t too bad, the country overall has seen 72% of its average rainfall for the month so far, which is pretty much where you want to be as we approach the end of August.”
