Jamaica will likely move from the amber list to the red list in this week’s review of its travel traffic light system, expected to be announced today or tomorrow.
Data analyst Tim White, who has been closely monitoring case numbers in destinations around the world, tweeted:
“The rate of positive testing for Jamaica today is 32.4%. Yesterday it was 49% higher, but it was always higher on Sundays with lower levels of testing. The argument for Jamaica avoiding the red is really hard to make now.”
White wrote in a huge series of data analysis and traffic light predictions on Tuesday, and he had better news for the holidays as they focus on Turkey.
White said that given Turkey’s “increasing vaccination rates, resort safety measures and now genetic sequencing,” his expectation was that Turkey would move to amber.
The Traffic Light System for UK travel is reviewed every three weeks, with the latest update announced on August 4, so the next revision is expected on August 25 or 26.

Key points Jamaica is likely to move to the red list, experts say, Turkey is a good candidate to move to amber, say analysts from Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands were hoping to stay on the amber list.
Croatia, Iceland and Madeira are all at risk of moving from the green to the amber list in this week’s travel rules review.
Seven countries and territories have been identified as potential transmission agents from green to amber by Covid and data expert Tim White, who yesterday published his forecast ahead of the next travel announcement.
The next revision of the travel lists is expected to be announced later today or tomorrow.
Based on global Covid rates and available data, White predicted that Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Dominica, Croatia, Iceland, Israel and Madeira are all at risk of being off the green list.
“Iceland must be removed from the green list despite high testing and a strict Covid-19 regime,” White wrote. “The prices are around 175/100K, but it’s also not on my watch list, so you might avoid the amber.”
