Set to release on Netflix on September 15, Schumacher will explore Schumacher’s success in F1 and life off track with the full support of his family.
The movie was announced in July, but Netflix has now released the first trailer for the documentary.
The trailer features interviews with Schumacher’s father, wife and two children, including current Haas Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher, who says: “When I look at him, I think, ‘I want to be like this’.”
Current Aston Martin F1 driver and four-time world champion Vettel is also part of the trailer, having looked at Schumacher throughout his racing career.
Schumacher marks Netflix’s latest foray into F1 and motorsports after hitting a hit with the Drive to Survive docu-series currently filming for its fourth season.
Schumacher’s director Sabine Kehm described the film as “a family gift to her beloved husband and father” at the time the film was announced.
“Michael Schumacher redefined the professional image of a racing driver and set new standards,” Kim said.
“In his quest for perfection, he spared neither himself nor his team, leading them to the greatest successes. He is admired the world over for his leadership qualities. He has found the strength for this mission and the balance to recharge at home, with his pagan family.
“In order to preserve his private sphere as a source of strength, he has always strictly and consistently separated his private life from his public life. This film tells of both worlds.”
Schumacher’s director Vanessa Knucker said Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, was “our biggest support on this” in making the film.
“She herself wanted to make an authentic film, to show Michael as he is, with all his vicissitudes, without any paint,” Nocker said.
“She was brilliant and brave enough to let us do what we wanted, and so we respected and maintained her limits. A very warm and inspiring woman who made a lasting impression on all of us.”
