More than 44,000 pounds of supplies are heading to those in need after the Haiti earthquake

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – It’s been over a week since a massive earthquake shook Haiti and there are still many people who are hurting and desperately needing help.

One organization now providing help is the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, or AHF.

On Wednesday, they loaded more than 44,000 pounds of supplies onto a private jet at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The plane will then deliver these goods to some of the hardest-hit areas of the country.

This is not the first relief trip organized by Al-Haramain. Just last week, they sent another plane full of medical supplies to Haiti.

Many of those supplies go to doctors and hospitals, who are still struggling to care for all the sick and injured.

Unlike last week’s flight, which carried about 7,000 pounds of supplies, the plane they’re using on Wednesday is much larger, allowing them to take in more than five times that amount.

“This journey is much broader,” said Michael Kahana, head of the Al Haramain Foundation’s southern office. “So, in addition to sending medical supplies that we’ve already taken, on this trip we have added life-sustaining supplies. So non-perishable food items, tents, sleeping bags, lanterns, flashlights, solar lanterns. So people who are not in the hospital and have not been infected can That they begin to settle, because the process of rebuilding will be very long. ”

While some of these supplies were donated specifically to the cause, many of the items on Wednesday’s trip actually came from a Surfside relief group that has begun collecting food and water for survivors of the Champlain Towers South collapse.

Apparently, they had so many items left that they offered to send them to Haiti to help some of the people there.
