Colien Mbappe is on the cusp of joining Real Madrid after Paris Saint-Germain accepted an improved offer of €180m (£154m), according to reports in Spain.

The 22-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join Real Madrid this summer and has rejected several attempts from Paris Saint-Germain to discuss a new contract.

Mbappe’s current deal expires at the end of the season, which means the French club will face the possibility of losing him on a free transfer next year.

Earlier this week, Real Madrid made their first bid for Mbappe, but their €160m (£137m) bid was rejected by PSG.

However, Marca have now reported that Madrid’s revised offer of €180m (£154m) has been accepted by PSG and that a transfer is now “imminent”.

The report claims the offer consists of €170m (145.8m) plus another €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons and an official announcement could be made on Friday.

Speaking after Thursday’s Champions League draw, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insisted the club stand firm on Mbappe’s position.

“We have always been very clear … the position and the position of the club,” he said.

We will not repeat it every time. You know our position, it has not changed.

Meanwhile, PSG sporting director Leonardo criticized Real Madrid’s behavior during the negotiations but made it clear that Mbappe wants to move to Spain.

“Mbappe would like to leave, that seems obvious to me,” Leonardo told RMC.

If Real Madrid makes an offer, that seems obvious to me. I am giving a position that I think is clear to everyone.

We can’t change our plans in the last week of the window. If he is intent on leaving, we won’t hold him back, but it will be our terms.

I can’t confirm the numbers but it’s about that. It is less than what we paid. But it’s the way Real Madrid did it in particular that exasperates us.

“Real has been acting like this for two years. It is wrong and illegal even if they contact the player. It is unacceptable for us, because it is not right.

We talk a lot. He’s always said the same things. Kylian has always promised that he will not leave the club for free. That’s what he always said.

We do not expect to speak again with Real Madrid. This is the market and for us we are clear: we want to hold it and extend its deal. But we won’t let him leave for a little less than we paid because we still owe money to Monaco.
