The House committee investigating the deadly mutiny in the US Capitol on January 6 by pro-Donald Trump extremists is seeking social media recordings that include people linked to the riots.

This news came shortly after the Special Committee issued its first round of blanket demands for records from several US government agencies.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the committee revealed that it has sent its initial demands to various organs of the executive branch including the National Archives and Records Administration, the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Interior and Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Counter-Terrorism Center and the National Counter-Terrorism Center. Committee chair Benny G. Thompson, a Mississippi congressman, gave agencies two weeks to produce the material. In a statement, Thompson wrote: “Our constitution provides for the peaceful transfer of power, and this inquiry seeks to assess threats to that process, identify lessons learned and recommend laws, policies, procedures, rules, or regulations necessary to protect our Republic in the future.”
Letters sent to agencies seek records dealing with a variety of matters relating to the January 6 attacks, including intelligence gathering and dissemination prior to the attack, security preparations around the Capitol, the role the agencies played in the Capitol defense, and the planning and organization of events in Washington on the 5th and January 6, and how the attacks fit into a series of attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Reuters news agency reported that the commission on Thursday asked major social media companies, including Facebook, Twitter and Google Alphabet, to hand over message logs related to the assault.
