Students in the Brooklyn neighborhood known as Little Haiti join together to raise money for the Haiti earthquake relief effort.
Central Brooklyn Ascend Middle School plans to launch a school-wide one-month coin campaign, in which each class will compete against each other to fill their coin jars with the most change.
The gathering at school today was intended to inform children about the areas affected by the earthquake that struck Haiti on August 14, killing more than 2,000 people and destroying more than 50,000 homes.
At the end of the coin campaign, the manager will personally take the coins back to Haiti to make sure they get into the hands of those in need.
