Caroline Flack’s mother attacks ITV2 and Laura Whitmore over ‘horrible’ love island comeback

Caroline Flack’s mother has attacked ITV2 and Laura Whitmore over the return of Love Island in the wake of her daughter’s death.

Flack posed on the ITV2 dating show from 2015 until 2019, when she announced that she quit the series after an argument at her home with boyfriend Louis Burton. Whitmore was later set to present the winter version of the series, and most recently presented a summer 2021 release.

Flack committed suicide in February 2020, weeks before her trial over Burton’s assault allegations was due. She denied the charges.

In a new interview, Flack’s mother, Kristen, accused ITV2 of disrespectful treatment of her daughter, both during her final months and after her death.

“Love Island is about making couples fight, it’s not about getting them in love,” Kristen told The Sun. “It makes them fight and argue, and they set them up for it. However, they fired Carrie on the spot [after her row with Burton]. “

While Flack claimed that she left Love Island of her own volition, and that ITV2 has kept the door open for her return to the series, unverified reports in early 2020 claimed that Flack believed she was effectively expelled from the show.

Kristen also said that she hasn’t watched the series since her daughter’s death.

“I watched Love Island because Carrie was in it,” she said. “Now, it’s shocking when the ad shows up and the girl who replaces her is wearing roughly the same dress, in roughly the same position. I think ITV2 could have done it a little differently. They could have done it out of respect.”

She continued, “It’s all right putting these movies on and saying, ‘Oh, we love Carrie blah blah blah.’ But you know, have some respect.”

Love Island has featured a number of montages honoring Flack since her death.

The Independent has contacted representatives of ITV and Whitmore for comment.

In the same interview, Flack’s mother said her daughter had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in the weeks before her death, and was terrified to go public with her mental struggles.
