The 43-year-old withdrew from appearing at the awards show on Friday after admitting to her friends that she was not ready to take on the world.

Instead, she’s planning a bank holiday with her family and close friends who swarmed in the wake of Monday’s alleged attack.

But a source said last night that Katie is getting stronger day by day.

She’s been through hell, said her boyfriend. “But her family and friends got together and they were great.

“Katie is really proud of the decision she made not to attend the awards show.

“In the past she might have jumped right back in but Katie is trying to be kind to herself and trying to turn around.

“It was tough but day by day you get there now. Katie is strong and she will come through this.

“Her management team has told her there is no need to rush back to work, but Katie wants to get back to normal as quickly as possible and if she can get back to work a little bit next week she will.

“She’s also considering leaving for a few days next month to get more time and space.”

Earlier this week, The Sun revealed how Katie plans to boost security around her by putting a ring of steel in place.

“Katie is considering forming a security team and has spoken to men she has used in the past,” said an insider.

“She’s also considering getting a dog and a panic alarm so she can feel more safe. Katie’s priority is to feel safe and make sure she and her kids aren’t in danger and she’ll do anything to make sure that.”

Katie was scheduled to appear at the British LGBT Awards on Friday, but decided she couldn’t.

She was left in excruciating pain and unable to sleep after being assaulted at her home on Monday.

The 43-year-old sustained a bump in the face, bruises, and serious foot injuries from the fall of last summer’s horror while escaping from the property.

Katie spoke exclusively to The Sun after the alleged attack, and said, “I have a big bruise, my face is completely swollen and I went to the hospital. I’m still in a daze.”

“I am devastated. I told the police that I was assaulted and I am shocked that it happened.”

Essex Police confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, robbery, coercive conduct and control.

He has since been released on conditional bail until September 20 pending further investigation into the three charges.

Katie’s friends said she believed going to court for another high-profile hearing would risk her mental health.

A friend said: “This is a nightmare situation for Katie.

She fully stands by her version of the events of that night being presented to the police, but upon reflection, she was not sure she was mentally strong enough to appear in court again.

“She doesn’t want to be dragged through the factory, and have her private life scrutinized by everyone else and variety. Katie sees no other way out.”

This means that the case against the alleged attacker of the mother of five could be dropped within days.

A police spokesman said: “It is our duty to take care of gathering all evidence relating to this case and our investigations are continuing.”

A source close to the investigation said investigators would contact Katie in the coming days.
