A woman is fighting for her life and two others are injured after a “malfunction” on a fairground ride at the Foodstock Festival in Cumbria.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Cavendish Park, Barrow, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday after two women and a man were injured, police said.

Two of the injured were reportedly on a flight at the time of the horrific accident.

One of the women is in a critical condition while the other two people suffer serious injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

They were all taken to Furness General Hospital.

Cops didn’t reveal which ride she was on, but there were Waltzers rides and several inflatable attractions at the event, NWE Mail reports.

The incident occurred at a local festival in the area called Foodstock, a charity supported by the event.

A cordon has been placed around the scene while investigations continue.

Cumbria police said officers, paramedics, firefighters and an air ambulance attended the ceremony.

The injuries were referred to the Health and Safety Department.

The family-friendly festival features the latest music along with arts, luxury and children’s activities.

Fudstock is an annual community event started several years ago to commemorate the life of Barrovian Richard Thorne (‘Fud’), who hoped to create a festival in his hometown.

The father died of bowel cancer in 2018 at the age of just 38.

Support is provided

The St Mary’s Hospice charity, for which Fudstock raises money, posted a statement on its Facebook page.

The statement read: “The St Mary’s nursing home management team has learned of an incident at the Foodstock event that was taking place tonight on Barrow Island.

“Although we are not directly involved in organizing or planning this event, we have had some fundraising staff and volunteers to represent us.

“We have already reached out to them, and the event organizers, to provide any immediate support they may need.

“We will be available to them to help in any way we can.”

The nursing home said the day before: “Thank you to the organizers for the blood, sweat and tears that go into putting on an event of this magnitude, and thank you to all fedstocks for everything you can do to contribute.

“I wish everyone a great time.”
