Cleveland – YouTube-turned-boxer Jake Paul is back in the ring to face former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in the main tag event at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland on Sunday (Showtime PPV, 8 p.m. ET).

Paul (3-0, 3 KOs), 24, of Cleveland, captured the boxing with impressive KO victories over fellow YouTuber Ali Eason Gibb, former NBA star Nate Robinson, and former Bellator MMA champion Ben Askren.

“Tyrone said he’s training like he’s fighting Mike Tyson,” Paul said during media training Wednesday. “Floyd Mayweather is training him, and you can tell he’s in great shape. He’s got the six back. He looks good. He’s not messing around. This is his biggest fight ever, and the entire MMA community is counting on him to represent them and to get Ws unfortunately, that’s not going to happen. And when I beat him, there would be no excuses, because he was training under Floyd Mayweather.”

Woodley, 39, of Ferguson, Missouri, who made his boxing debut, won the UFC title against Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 in 2016. He defended the belt four times but lost his last four matches after that.

“That’s just so much fun,” Woodley said. “I haven’t had fun in a long time, to be real.” “I loved this boot camp. It was one of the most fun camps for me ever. I have no problem with Jack Paul. The only problem is that he signed the contract. He does his best to play mind games. Man. I don’t play kids games.”

In the co-main event, Amanda Serrano (40-1-1, 30 KOs), 32, of Brooklyn, New York, defends the WBC and WBO featherweight titles against Yamileth Mercado (18-2, 5 KOs), 23, of Chihuahua , Mexico.

Daniel Dubois is officially back on a winning streak. He knocked out British heavyweight prospect Joe Kusumano three times early on his way to a TKO victory at 2:10 of the first round, taking his second straight win.

“The greatest is yet to come,” Dubois said in his post-fight interview.

Dubois slammed Cusumano with a huge jumble of ropes for bringing him down the first time. Kusumano was able to recover, but Dubois landed hard and then slipped his right hand to bring down Kusumano again. On the third drop, Dubois unleashed a wave against the ropes and sent the visibly injured Kusumano back onto the canvas. The referee did not even start counting the third time, and immediately waved a fight.

Dubois’ win (17-1, 16 KOs) came after falling for the first time in his career, to Joe Joyce via KO last November. The 23-year-old from London defeated Bogdan Dino via knockout in the second round in June. This was Dubois’ first appearance in the United States. Cusumano (19-4), a 33-year-old Virginia native, has won four of his last five upcoming fights.

Montana Love stops Ivan Baranchik, remains undefeated Montana Love, left, defeats Ivan Baranchik by TKO after Round 7. Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images

Montana Love scored a massive win in front of the fans of his hometown. With fans swaying after every combo and raining “USA!” Cheers, Love defeated Ivan Baranchik via TKO (corner kick) at 3:00 of the seventh round.

Love had all the momentum up to that point after a fairly even start to the match, but round seven would be the turning point. Love exploded with a wrecking shovel with his left hand when Baranchik came in late on the seventh, bringing down Baranchik. Although Baranchyk was able to respond to a count of 10 off the referee with the clock running out in round 7, Baranchyk’s corner stepped in and began peeling the tape off Baranchyk’s gloves, calling for an end to the fight.

“It’s a dream come true,” Love said in his post-fight interview.

Upon her entry, ESPN ranked Baranchyk ranked No. 8 in the world among junior welterweight fighters. This was the biggest victory of the love profession.

Baranchik shouldn’t really be fighting. His battle with Zepeda should have been his last. it is time !

Love, a southpaw, really started to take over in the fourth round, using that left shovel from odd angles to hurt Baranchyk. Love blended that in with a great one-to-two set throughout.

Baranchik chased early and often and had big touchdown moments, including a big wave at the end of the third round. But Love wobbled Baranchik for the first time at the bell to finish third when the verdict came to separate them – and that may have turned the tide.

Next, Love called up Josh Taylor, the undisputed junior welterweight champion.

Love said: “Tie me, man.” “Hand me up right away.”

Love (16-0-1) won five in a row after drawing with Kenneth Sims Jr. in July 2018. This is the second straight win for the 26-year-old Cleveland player.

Baranchik (20-3), the then 28-year-old Russian former WWF lightweight champion, has lost three of his past four matches.

Tommy Fury beats Anthony Taylor and calls Jake Paul Tommy Fury, right, dominated Anthony Taylor en route to a unanimous decision victory. Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images

It wasn’t the kind of outstanding performance many wanted from Tommy Fury. But he got the job done.

Punch stats

Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, defeated MMA fighter Anthony Taylor by unanimous decision (40-36, 40-36, 40-36) on Paul-Woodley’s bottom card. The match was contracted for four rounds at a price of 180 pounds.

The much shorter Taylor, who competed up to 135 pounds in MMA, was giving up a significant size advantage. Fury, a UK celebrity courtesy of his family and appearance on the reality show “Love Island”, has been put on this card as a potential later fight for Paul. It’s unclear how a somewhat lackluster performance would affect the chances of such a fight all together.

Taylor, who only came with one boxing match, is Paul’s training partner, so the bout was done in order to see how Fury would perform against someone Paul knew well.

“Let’s get started, Jake Paul,” Fury said in his post-fight interview.

Fury obviously won every round, but Taylor tried to make it tough with a lot of snatching and getting through a much longer fury. Taylor had some overhead rights and left hooks, but Fury was busier and got many tough fixtures and shots. To Taylor’s credit, he was never hurt.

Fury (7-0), just 22, won two straight decisions after four consecutive knockouts.

Taylor (0-2), 32, fights from Los Angeles, has 7-5 MMA and has competed in the Bellator. Antonio Mackie, MMA veteran and father/coach to Bellator featherweight champion AJ McKee, was in Taylor’s corner.

Charles Conwell dominating, stopping Juan Carlos Rubio Charles Conwell, right, defeating Juan Carlos Rubio by stopping in the third round. Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images

Charles Conwell defeated Juan Carlos Rubio via a third-round TKO. After a strong and relatively quiet first round, Conwell was left fired in the third round. He hits Rubio on the body and then hits him with two consecutive blows to the left to raise him reeling.

Conwell licked his clean right hand that shook Rubio the most, and while Rubio remained afloat, Conwell was chewing it completely with no sign of things getting better. This resulted in the referee interfering and stopping the fight, giving Conwell a TKO victory at 2:49 in the third round.

One of the highlights to fight outside of Cleveland, Conwell (16-0, 12 KOs) was a 2016 Olympian in boxing. This is the 23-year-old’s fifth victory in his past six fights.

Rubio (18-1), a 23-year-old Mexican national, has finished his two previous fights and made his third US appearance.

Conwell is notorious for a tragic accident involving Patrick Day, another potential boxer, who died in 2019 after losing Conwell.
