Leeds United are approaching the permanent transfer of Daniel James from Manchester United.
It has been a whirlwind 48 hours for the Wales international, whose world has seemingly turned since Old Trafford announced they had reached an agreement to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus in an exciting deal.
This meant that United’s bloated squad had to be scaled back somehow before the end of the transfer window, and James appears to be the man of the fall.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said talks between Leeds and Man United are now at an “advanced” stage regarding James’ transfer.
Romano wrote on Twitter: “Leeds are in advanced talks to sign a permanent contract with Dan James from Manchester United!
“Discussions are underway to complete the agreement. Talks are also on personal terms.”

It would see James arrive at Elland Road after more than three years of a failed move from Swansea City.
Back in January 2019, on deadline day, James was just minutes away from finishing a move from the Pelicans to Leeds, where he would be closer to his family at Hull.
Amazon Prime Take Us Home: The Leeds United documentary gave fans an unusual, never-before-seen account of the botched transfer, which saw then-Swans boss Huw Jenkins pull the plug on the move at the last minute.
Speaking to his former Swansea teammate Kenji Gauri on the podcast “Living the Dream,” James spoke of his anger after learning that the move had failed.
“Leeds was offering me four years,” he said. “The Amazon Prime documentary shows what happened: I got there in the morning, my agent said things could go through wires, I did all the checkups and medical stuff.
“I got to Elland Road about 6pm, and I did all the pictures with my shirt, all the interviews, because they wanted to go out in the morning, and then it was weird.
“I got there around 9pm and signed all the papers and then moved from club to club. I had people text me and say ‘what’s going on?’ “And I literally don’t know.
There were only 15 minutes left until I thought: ‘This might not happen now.’
“I ended up calling the boss [of Swansea] to ask him what’s going on. Everything was a little crazy and then it didn’t – I threw my phone.
“I thought it wasn’t real. The Leeds CEO wasn’t happy at the time, but then it was just about driving home. It was a very strange situation and I think it helped me in some ways.”
One doubts that Manchester United’s senior officers are unlikely to make such a turn this time around.
