On August 26, the second AMDA medical team left Port-au-Prince for the disaster sites severely damaged by the previous earthquake. The team consists of seven aid workers, including the head of the branch, a doctor, a medical student, a nurse and others.
On the 27th, the team conducted medical relief and item donation in Plain Matin, an area where the previous team went on the way back from the first mission. When the first team reported that the city needed a lot of help, the second team came back to help. This time, the team examined 84 patients in total, prescribing drugs for those who needed them. To distribute the items, 123 people received food and other daily commodities, while 36 children were provided with snack crackers. The assistance was well appreciated because “Amda Haiti was the first NGO to reach the area,” according to residents.
On the 28th, the team visited Buchan Noel in Corel, one of the hardest-hit communities, to organize medical relief and distribute supplies. 62 people attended for medical examination, while 120 people received food and drinks.
Meanwhile in Japan, AMDA Coordinator Ms. Kanako Morita paid a visit to the Haitian Embassy in Tokyo on the 27th. She met with the Ambassador of Haiti His Excellency Mr. Helve Monod Honorat to seek advice on relief activities. Similarly, she visited the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Japan on the same day. After confirming that the PCR test was negative, Ms. Morita left Japan on the 28th and is expected to arrive in Haiti on the 31st.
