But it is still targeting “definitely” late 2021.
CD Projekt told investors it “can’t say for sure” that the highly anticipated next-generation updates of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 will launch this year, despite the developer insisting it still aims for a “late 2021” release.
An improved version of The Witcher 3 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S — promising the likes of ray tracing and faster load times — was announced last September, while a “proper” version of the next generation of Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in June 2020.
Both were initially slated to release this year, but their respective statuses have been somewhat unclear in light of the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the resulting studio tweak, and a revised development roadmap as CD Projekt worked to improve the core game.

Officially, both updates are still slated to release in “late 2021,” but Senior Vice President of Business Development Michał Nowakowski has now admitted to investors during CD Projekt’s H1 2021 results call (as transcribed by VGC) that while the studio is still “definitely Aiming for a launch this year, she “can’t say with certainty that the production schedule won’t change.”
“The goal is to release a next-generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 later this year,” Novakowski explained. “At the same time, given the lessons we’ve learned over the past year and considering that this project is still in development, we can’t say with certainty that the production schedule will not change.”
It’s a similar story to The Witcher 3 update – which is handled externally by Saber Interactive – with Nowakowski noting that development is “ongoing, and we can’t be completely sure that the release schedule won’t change”.
However, “for now,” Novakowski concluded, “we’re definitely aiming for both titles in late 2021 and I don’t want to be more specific at this moment.”
According to CD Projekt, just over a third of the company is currently working on Cyberpunk 2077 — both on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version, as well as supporting the original game. The Cyberpunk team recently released their “biggest patch yet,” introducing the likes of an improved mini-map, particularly the first batch of free post-launch DLC.
