Mr Wheeler and his wife, Tawi Chesenrit, 49, were in tears when they were reunited at Dong Yen Monastery, with Mr. Wheeler telling the rescuers: “Thank you a million times.”
Mr. Wheeler had gone off on his motorbike on Tuesday, telling his wife he wanted to enjoy some time in the local rice fields and forests of Khao Suan Quang Province – but he hasn’t come back.
Later that day, Al-Tawi reported his disappearance to the police.
His motorcycle was found parked in a rice field on Tuesday evening.
