New doubts have been raised about Andrew Neal’s continued involvement with GB News as it turns out that he will not be expected to return next week to work at the station he founded.
Amid strained relations between Neal and the executives who run the station, former Sky broadcaster Colin Brazier said on Twitter Friday that he would again be on the chair presenting his colleague on Monday.
The continued absence of Neal – who is also the chairman of GB News – comes as the station plans a relaunch, which will likely differ from his original vision.
As the former BBC presenter took a vacation two months ago, GB News made Nigel Farage its star presenter and rebuilds elsewhere in the image of the former UKIP and Brexit politician.
While Neil has hosted only eight of the 52 episodes of his show of the same name on GB News and it remains unclear when or if he will return, he still found time to appear on Friday’s edition of a viewer-produced online show, Where is the chairman of the board of directors.
He also promoted it on his Twitter account, where his tweets about GB News are marked by their relative absence. When he last presented GB News on June 24, Neil told viewers that he was taking a break and that he would “be back before the summer is over.”
Other new hires this week by GB News included the announcement on Friday that Isabel Oakeshott, a former journalist for the Sunday Times and Daily Mail, will present one of the station’s upcoming daily political programme, The Briefing.
The announcement earlier this week of the station’s appointment of veteran home affairs and crime journalist Mark White, who joined from Sky News, is seen as a potential area of focus for the channel, which has relatively few general news reporters or specialists in other fields. Regions.
Sources at GB News continue to dismiss suggestions that Farage and other aspects of his programming prove to be a British version of Fox News in the making.
They point to the fact that other new offers will include one by former Labor MP Gloria de Piero. Tom Harwood and Darren McCaffrey will present other versions of the same programme, The Briefing, at different times of the day.
But it is understandable that Neal’s absence casts a shadow over the young staff at GB News who had to put up with technical problems upon its launch. It is known that they are becoming increasingly resentful of the fact that Neil does not exist and feels abandoned.
