Local residents said that a father accused of killing a suspected pedophile for raping his eight-year-old daughter should not face murder charges.

Rocket engine factory worker Vyacheslav M, 34, was drinking with his old friend Oleg Sviridov, 32, near their home in the village of Ventai in the Russian Samara region, when he found videos of the alleged attacks on his mobile phone.

Sviridov was the paternal father of the little girl, now nine years old, and he took care of her alone several times.

After Vyacheslav confronted him on the videos, Sviridov fled.

After reporting the rapes to the police, Vyacheslav began his own search, found Sviridov, and allegedly stabbed him to death.

Sviridov was also accused of raping two other girls, aged six and eleven, and filming the attacks (

Police say the stunned father confessed to killing Sviridov but said he “found the knife during a quarrel” in a forest near the village.

The body of the alleged child abuser was found near the village on Thursday, more than a week after Vyacheslav watched the offending video.

Vyacheslav was arrested and the case is under investigation.

Police said there were several videos on Sviridov’s phone showing the abuse of other girls, ages 6 to 11.

Criminal cases related to child sexual abuse found on Sviridov’s phone were also opened.

Sviridov’s mother said that her son was often a babysitter for Vyacheslav’s children, and the couple had long been friends.

“I don’t know how I got there,” she said. “He must have been drunk. Most likely he was drunk.”

They left their children with him all the time. When he was sitting on those girls, he went home as usual, in a good mood.”

But villagers and residents across Russia have demanded that Vyacheslav not face murder charges.

“He’s not a killer – he protected his daughter and our children too,” said one of the locals.

“Everyone is on his side.”

“All parents stand up for the killer of children,” prominent TV journalist and former Russian presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak told her followers.
