Cristiano Ronaldo smiled as he arrived for his first full day of training at Manchester United’s Carrington compound ahead of his potential second appearance this weekend.
The new No7 came to the training ground for the first time on Tuesday to speak with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and meet some of his new teammates before joining in a session with members of the team not far from international service.
However, he will take part in a full session for the first time on Wednesday as United assess whether they are prepared to play a role in Newcastle’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday – and you can watch the game highlights for free shortly after. Full time with Sky Sports.
Ronaldo’s return to Carrington on Tuesday marked the first time he had returned to United’s coaching base since he left the club 12 years ago for Real Madrid in a then-record £80m deal.
The 36-year-old could be in line to make his United debut in Saturday’s Premier League game against Newcastle or alternatively, or in the Champions League opener away to Young Boys on Tuesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo gives a thumbs up to fans upon his arrival at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground, says Peter Stephenson.
“It is hoped that the striker is ready to assist the team and begin to make an immediate impact in his second spell at the club,” a statement from Manchester United read.

Ronaldo, who signed from Juventus on a two-year contract, arrived in Manchester last Thursday after being released early from the Portugal squad after being suspended.
Ronaldo is in good scoring form after scoring two late goals in Portugal’s 2-1 World Cup qualifier win over the Republic of Ireland last Wednesday to become the best-ever international men’s footballer.
