The City of Westminster Police wrote on Twitter: “Shortly before 11:00 on Wednesday, 8 September, officers on duty near Downing Street noticed a neglected item in Whitehall.

A collar was held in place during an assessment to determine if the item was suspicious.

Westminster City Police has since released an update.

At 11.32am, they tweeted “Item Rated Not Suspicious. Hoop Raised.”

A video circulating of the incident appears to show that the bomb disposal unit is preparing to inspect the “neglected item”.

The threat came as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is seen clashing in the House of Commons with Sir Keir Starmer in the first PMQ meetings since the summer recess.

MPs will vote on the Conservative plan to introduce a health and social care tax later today.

The National Insurance hike breaks one of the 2019 election pledges made in the Conservative manifesto, and is set to come under scrutiny by the Labor leader and other MPs during the session.
