The letter, sent earlier this week for sentencing sentencing Barbara Fontaine, chief of the Queen’s Punch division, represents the first public acknowledgment of the lawsuit by the prince’s legal team and the first indication of how it plans to respond.
Mr Bloxom said the 2009 agreement may have led to the adjudication, with consent, last month of Joffrey’s high-profile civil lawsuit against Alan Dershowitz.
Geoffrey accused Mr. Dershowitz, the attorney who formerly represented Epstein, of sexual assault in 2019.
However, it reportedly dropped the claim last month because its settlement with Epstein released him and others of certain allegations.
Mr. Dershowitz is now trying to open the 2009 agreement, and has requested a copy to be sent to Duke’s attorneys, to help them drop the case against him. The judge has not yet decided his case on this request.
It comes ahead of the first court hearing, by telephone, in New York on Monday, when Mrs. Jeffrey’s attorney, David Boyce, will detail various attempts to serve the Duke in person at his Windsor home, by post and email to several law firms he believes is associated with him.
Ms Giuffre, 38, accused the Duke of committing “first-degree rape”, sexual battery and sexual assault, when she was 17.
It alleges the abuse occurred at the New York home of convicted sex offender Epstein, on his private Caribbean island, and at the London home of social activist Ghislaine Maxwell, who is awaiting trial for sex trafficking. The Duke denied the allegations and said he “doesn’t remember ever meeting her”.
